Portable Blu-Ray disc Players?

July 20, 2007

We all heard of portable music players, portable dvd players and portable media386px-blu-ray_discsvg.png players. But what about the newest in HD movies? Well Sony has (unofficially) announced that it is going to release some portable blu-ray disc players sometime in 2008. Although no exact date was given, its believed to be around july. This will give BD a while to get more popular and cause the technology costs to be a little cheaper, especially over the holiday rushes.

You can expect these on the market sometime mid 2008 for around 399-499 USD

To me this seems like a rather stupid idea unless you have a substantial blu ray collection already (i guess you can use standard dvds on it but that would be stupid as well). How can anyone really tell the difference between blu ray and standard DVD on a 7 inch screen? I mean really, will it look that much better that it would be worth the cost? Perhaps in the future but for now, I think it would be a useless item.

Can’t wait, I will buy one. For those that poo-poo new technology because “it makes no sense”, all I can say is enjoy your old technology and keep your yap shut about new technology that other people want and can afford.
