PS3 vs XBOX 360 vs Wii

July 17, 2007 at 4:12 pm 8 comments

Ok my last post seemed to stir up all the xbox 360 and wii fans. (not just them though) So i decided to do a little debating session. This is how it works:

Put who you personally like the most.

Then Type who you think will win in the long wrong. If you use facts that are not common knowlage, please post a site link, or something to indicate that your not fudging numbers and bullsh!ting.

After that, post some ideas you think may help a system in the race.

I will post my personal opinion as an example to follow.

 Let the debate begin!

I like the xbox 360 the best

I think the PS3 Will get the most sales by the start of the next gen race. This is because Sony has always had the strongest system. Its always been rivaled by other inovative companies such as Nintendo and xbox. But it has always came out to be the best selling system. The ps2 sold over 100 million copies. It is using the same strategy. And yes wii is taking over a new type of gamer but that gamer is hardcore. so they wont go out and buy a bunch of games. they wont buy stuff online, they wont doo all that, just the system and a few games to go with it, so it will not have a lot of support from thrid party game developers. It will all be first party games. Where the hardcore gamer will have a collection of 100’s. The more games, the better games. And the better games for a system has a big impact on the systems success. look what the gta, metal gear solid and final fantasy games did for sony.

I think sony should lower its prices again, do some more firmware updates, change the online story and add rumble to the controllers. the other systems are pretty good as they are, they just lacka little bit in the expansion area.

After reading the comments on your previous post, I had to voice my opinion.

As everyone knows, the Wii isn’t aimed at the same market than the 360 or PS3. The main problem with the gaming industry right now is that it wasn’t able to appeal to the mainstream customer, which is more than 90% of the market. There is a HUGE base for potential new players, and having “complex-looking” consoles like the PS3 ans Xbox360 will never appeal to them, since they are “afraid” of it, pretty much like elderly people are afraid of computers (not all of them, I know, but you get my point).

Then there was the point about the hype of innovation that will fade off with time. Obviously, when something is new it can’t stay new all the time, but then again, the PS3 and 360 aren’t innovating at all with their consoles, they just re-cooked the same recipe and gave it an upgrade specs-wise. As long as developpers think outside of the box, a platform such as the Wii shows incredible possibilities, even with a sub-par technological spec sheet compared to its counterparts.

PS3 has a lifespan of 10 years ? Probably, seeing as how it’s specs are impressive, but what if the Wii only has a (for instance) lifespan of 5 years ? Nintendo will simply make another console, and the “hype of innovation” will come to life again.

Since they are both for very different markets, the Wii VS PS3/360 comparison cannot be made, as a lot of different aspects have to be taken into account and will never make sense when used in conjunction with the idea of different markets!

In it’s own right, the Wii will win the casual gaming portion of the population, whereas the PS3 will (most likely) suceed over the Xbox 360 on the long run (very long run).

With all due respect if your posts didnt scream fanboy nothing does. Basically as it breaks down to its simplest for you credit Bluray as the key to the PS3 being better for games. You fail to dig deaper. The closing comment about the 360 and PS3 being even for physics but only for now is pretty dumb. I dont care how much storage you have it isnt going to increase your physics processing power. just not going to happen. they are pretty even now and they will be even 15 years from now.

Furthermore there is a differant way of generating graphics on the 360 that isnt used in PS3, called Procedural Synthesis. Ever hear of it? I would suggest looking it up. While the PS3 has tomes of room to store game data like textures and such, which take up the majority of the space, the 360 actually doesnt even need to store textures. The 360 uses a technology called Procedural Synthesis which it can generate the game textures in real time only using small bits of code or description. For example, to display a tree. the PS3 will need to store the texture images of the tree in its entiredy and load all of that off disk. The 360 can use a discription of the tree, colors, wind direction, etc and generate it on the fly. This process cuts down on the storage size needed by 10.

Now, 10 years for PS3? Oh I think both systems will be around in 10 years but the visuals they will be creating would be akin to what Gamecube is in comparison to the time now, especially the PS3 which contains a far weaker GPU than 360.

ps3 is the best system out and beats xbox 360 by a long shot its not even worthy to be compared to the ps3 let me break it down ps3 has better games better graphics by 1 and a half times it has a blu ray player which is the best quilaty u can watch movies in today. has a bigger hard drive free online play lets just say ps3 beats xbox 360 in everything possible except maybey in sucking.

I have had a 360 and now have a ps3. I think the 360 is a better console at the moment with more games on the market and with Halo 3 coming out it might get big sales. The ps3 is doomed this year as not many great games coming out after GTA 4 was delayed. There might be a chance next years as Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA4or even Grand Turismo 5. The ps3 might win in the years to come as it has much more protential and with the great games it will sel good. But for now the ps3 has been a flop and i will buty anougher 360 along side my ps3.

I did used to have a 360 and now i have a ps3. I think this year the 360 has killed the ps3 by bringing out brilliant games that are not on the ps3. The games on the nulti platform also look better on the 360 but not that much better. I think next year it might be the other way around as GTA4 has been delayed it is a big help. They also have games such as, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Turismo 5, God of War 3 and also LA Noire has almost been confirmed as a ps3 game, Rockstar are also working on a game that is made with the ps3 power. To all the 360 dumb nuts Metal Gear Solid is not coming out for the 360 as it was confirmed it is on PS3 hardware. The 360 do not have as many great games next year but this year is a killer as Halo 3 and Bioshock might win them the nex gen Race. But i think in the end the ps3 will be the best. I will buy anougher 360 cos of BIOSHOCK AND HALO 3
